Testimonials for O2 for Life:

September 2007
"Each year, I lead a group of students from Southern California down to the rainforests of Costa Rica. We spend close to a week at the O2 For Life rainforest reserve. The students leave (reluctantly) having been transformed into completely new people due to the magical quality of their visit. A stay at the reserve, with its communal living off the grid, being dropped off by boat with all supplies you’ll need for the week, far from any road, alone with nature in its purest and most diverse form is something that everyone needs to experience in their lifetime. No clocks are used. The days are delineated by the morning calls of the howler monkeys and the stunning sunsets each evening. The significant tidal swings, the change from diurnal to nocturnal stirrings and the intimacy with thousands of different species of plants and animals all help connect you with the pulse of nature. I hope that you too can come visit the womb of the earth at the O2 For Life Rainforest Reserve."

"The trip to Costa Rica that our students take every year is critically important to their development as “future citizen of the world.” Many of our students have never been outside of Dorchester, let alone outside of the country. This trip broadens their horizon and truly gives them a global perspective. Many thanks to O2 for Life and its supporters for providing our children with a very important educational experience."

"Our stay at the O2 for Life Foundation was one of those experiences which stays imprinted in your memory for a lifetime. The program, which was created and tailored specifically for our class, exposed us to the Costa Rican culture and immersed us in the natural world. Each day, the rain forest became an incredible classroom  as we were safely guided through it, allowing our senses to open and take it all in. The staff was exceptional; everyone shared their expertise, from our guide, a local naturalist, to our excellent cook who made us local specialties and shared recipes. All welcomed us with openness into their lives. We were given the opportunity to see the world through a different lens and learned to appreciate the simplicity of life. Thank you for this amazing gift."

"I was fortunate enough to accompany my daughter’s 8th grade class to Costa Rica in June of 2005 and stay at the O2 for Life facilities. I am a professional horticulturist and run a nursery business here in New England. In brief, the staff, the facilities and the surroundings made it one of the most impressive experiences not only for the children, who are still talking about it today, but especially for me. The tropical rainforest environment is such an eye opening departure from the environment of New England. To see how symbiotic and layered the forest, sea and surrounding environment are, and to live inside that world, changed my own highly experienced view of nature. I would highly recommend this facility and their staff to any other school, or group for an environmentally transcending experience."

"Thanks to the O2 for Life Foundation, our class trip to Costa Rica was full of cultural and personal growth experiences that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Traveling through the palm plantations to our destination on the coast was an eye opening reality check for my students. Once at the O2 For Life reserve, this was balanced by the amazing power and beauty of nature: exciting hikes to the water falls, the botanical gardens and the many exotic animals we encountered every day. Even the various bugs provided us with novel and humorous challenges on personal and group levels.

We all became aware of how important it is to respect and conserve nature for our own good. At the same time, we all faced and overcame some aspect of our personal fear of the wilderness: bugs, bats and the deep darkness of the jungle night. The accommodations were pleasant and clean and the food was absolutely wonderful. The staff put us all at ease with their knowledge, experience, humor and their sincere and loving respect for each and every student."

"O2 for Life provides an invaluable experience for students to study earth science and biodiversity in the field. They learn to appreciate the environment and come to understand that human activity has a tremendous impact on the natural world and the survival of its species."

"Traveling to Costa Rica is an experience our students will cherish for years to come. Not only is this an opportunity for them to immerse themselves in the Spanish language, they also are exposed to different ways of living. Students return with an appreciation for the life they have and a desire to continue pursuing fluency in Spanish."
